4 Things You Can Give on Giving Tuesday
There’s so much to be thankful for this holiday season! Over the last few days, you’ve spent time with family, ate a ton of yummy food #TurkeyComa and got some amazing Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
After enjoying all of that abundance, let’s keep the good vibes going by giving back!
Today is the 7th annual Giving Tuesday, a global movement made famous on social media “to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness.” Thousands of organizations and countless people from 150 countries have united and are inspired to make the world a better place.
So how do you get involved?
Here are Four Things You Can Give on Giving Tuesday:
If you’ve got the wiggle room in your budget, you can donate money to your favorite charity. Any amount helps them to achieve their mission.
Want to make a recurring gift? Charlie can help you manage your giving. Just tell him to ‘track donations’ and he’ll set up a monthly budget for you.
Tip: You may also be able to donate directly from your paycheck — and have your donation matched by your employer. Check with your HR department!
Can’t find the cash in your budget? That’s OK! Organizations always appreciate volunteers– whether you can commit to a regular schedule or can just help for one day.
You may find yourself cleaning up a park, delivering meals to the elderly or playing with dogs at an animal shelter. If you’ve got special skills, you can also offer pro-bono services like web design, social media management, copywriting, etc.
Contact the organization of your choice to see what they need. You can build your resume and help them save money. It’s a win-win
Short on cash and time?
Look around your home for items that you’re not using. Consider donating canned goods to food pantries, pet supplies to animal shelters, books to libraries, etc.
It all really helps! Plus — you’ll have less clutter, making room for your next great bargain score!
Tip: Not sure where to donate your money, time or goods? Find the perfect organization here.
Bonus Tip: If you donate cash or stuff, save your receipts. Your generosity may lower what you have to pay in taxes.
Make Giving Tuesday even more successful by posting about it on social media. Tell the world about your good deeds using the #GivingTuesday hashtag and encourage your family and friends to get involved, too.
Fun Tip: Post an #UNselfie by taking a picture of yourself holding a piece of paper with your favorite charity written on it. It’s super easy. Download and print this, fill in your charity and snap your pic.
While Giving Tuesday is an incredible one-day celebration of generosity, the real power of the movement is that it inspires us to give year ‘round. There’s always someone in need.
Let Giving Tuesday inspire you to help others every day!
